About the Coordination
The European Coordination JECI-MIEC (International Young Catholic Students – International Movement of Catholic Students) is the official name of the Organisation.
The European Coordination JECI-MIEC wants to be the instance of collaboration between the JECI-MIEC movements just as between other movements of catholic students in Europe.
The Coordination is the regional body, which conforms to the statutes of JECI and MIEC.
It wants to contribute to the realisation of the task of evangelisation in the student world, secondary and university.
The European Coordination JECI-MIEC understands evangelisation as a complex process which integrates the experience of faith, personal and ecclesiastical, with the liberating commitment of all those who practise justice, in solidarity with the poorest and the oppressed, for the construction of brotherhood in the world whose origin is to be found in the love of God, faithful to the memory of the life, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Introduction to the Statutes)
The aims of the European Coordination JECI-MIEC are defined according to the aims of the JECI (art. 2 International Statutes) and of the MIEC (art. 3-4 International Statutes).
The specific aims the European Coordination wants to realise on continental level, involve:
a) the action of evangelisation in the student world in Europe, implying the will to promote the movements capable of wakening the students to their responsibility vis-à-vis the society
b) the confrontation and deep study of the orientations, exchanges of experiences and mutual enrichment among their member, collaborating and corresponding movements
c) a process of intercultural education, with the aim to overcome the barriers that are imposed to us by our history, our culture, our different socio-political and ecclesiastical contexts, in order to challenge and re-orientate the practice of all
d) our specific contribution as movement of Church, movement of youth and movement of students, to the construction of Europe by the confrontation with the European and world reality on the social, political, economic, cultural and ecclesiastical level
e) the cooperation with European Institutions and Organisations, especially non-governmental youth organisations (Art. 2 of the Statutes)
In other words, the Coordination wants to be a platform of exchange and common reflection for the national movements, to deepen the international dimension in the work of the national movements, to promote reflection on Internationality in a social, political, economic, cultural and religious context and foster intercultural education processes, to empower students all over Europe to participate self-responsible in political and social life and to strengthen their commitment as actors in society and to strengthen the engagement of young people in Church.
This definition is not restrictive. It opens new prospects and stems from the experience of common work, enriched by the joining in of new partners. At individual level and structural level, the different activities play an important role going far beyond the just a position of experiences or opinions.
